Gerani village in the Municipality of Nikiforos Fokas, lies 5.5 km from Rethymnon town, following a left-hand junction on the new national road from Rethymnon to Chania.
Gerani is listed in all the Venetian censuses of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as in censuses carried out by Egyptian and Ottoman administrations.
The population of Gerani now stands at aprox. 500. It has some very nice places with traditional food and hosts a lot of festivities through the year.
The village nestles among groves of olive, oak and carob trees, affording a view of the Cretan Sea. Every year its excellent facilities and it’s proximity to the town cater for numerous tourists.
A short distance away at Kamari is the Gerani Cave, an important site in Minoan times.

GERANI CAVE

This cave was rediscovered by chance in 1969, during excavations for the construction of a bridge. It lies 2 km NE of Gerani, 5 km west of Rethymnon at Kamari and 300 m from the sea shore.
Until its rediscovery the entrance had been blocked by a huge boulder which probably fell in an earthquake. Both the modern and ancient entrances are facing north.
The cave is 50m long, at a width of between 0.5 and 17 m and a maximum height of 4.5 m. Impressive rock formations are to be found within.
The cave was in use as early as the Neolithic Age. It served as a place of worship and burial; both animal and human skeletons have been found. At the ancient entrance there is a staircase reminiscent of the type seen at Knossos, with eight steps, five of which are carved into the rock.

The project is situated in the village Roussospiti and it is 5 Kms distanced from Rethymnon. The project property is one of the absolutely best properties in the area. The view from each villa is an 180º panoramic view of Rethymnon and the surrounding areas.

Sivas

The village of SIVAS lies 62 km away from Iraklion , on the western slope of Asterousia Mountains. at an altitude of 110 m above sea level.
Its 1000 years history comes to life for the visitor, who has the chance to admire its monuments, and old houses, perfectly preserved through the centuries.That is why Sivas has been characterized by the Ministry of Culture as a traditional and protected village.
There are many suggestions about the origin of the name SIVA. Some say that it has to do with SHIVA the god of INDIA, or SIWA the famous oasis of EGYPT where the temple of AMON ZEUS was built and was visited by ALEXANDER THE GREAT.
The Latin word Silva means forest and we know that Asterousia Mountains were covered not far ago with dense forests. But it seems more probable that the water springs ( in Arab SIVA) gave name to the village.Near the village the archaeologists unearthed circular tombs of the pre-palace period (2600-2000 B.C.). Also in 1958 a full collection of early Hellenistic coins was unearthed. Most of these, however, were stolen by looters and only 36 coins were found and are currently on display at the Archaeological Museum of Iraklion.
Sivas can be the base of excursions to the south of Crete. It is located close to the archaeological sites of Gortys and Phaistos, and the beaches at Matala, Komos and Kalamaki. You can also hike down Agiofarago Gorge, stopping at the old church of Agios Antonios, and ending to the beach. You can also visit the palm tree forest in Martselos.
